Real Life Called: It Wants My Attention Back

Should I answer when Real Life calls?  I'm guessing I should.  Blogging, keeping up the Simply Shoeboxes Facebook page, replying to emails and chatting it up with other shoebox packers takes a lot of time, energy and emotions.  Three commodities I do not have enough of lately.  No matter how much I love it all.

When I do a thing I put my whole heart into it.  Unfortunately my heart is only so big, no matter how hard I try to increase its size by stretching it around more projects.  And I've tried to cut back, do things more simply, but I found that more stressful.  It's easier to change my schedule than to change my personality.  And I'd much rather cut something out of my schedule than cut out some of my caring or passion from my personality.

So to answer Real Life's call I need to hang up on blogging, at least for now.  Simply Shoeboxes will remain online so you can refer to it and share it as usual, but I won't be sharing any new posts.  I will miss my sweet readers and hearing about your Operation Christmas Child shoebox packing adventures.  I'll miss the inspiration and ideas I glean from you all.

Hopefully one day I will be able to return, but for now a final:  Happy Packing!

  1. May God bless you in hearing His call and honoring the change of direction. You have been a blessing, yet we know God will provide guidance in other ways. I look forward to the day you can share again, if it comes and if not, I know He will be holding you in His hands.

  2. I understand how hard this is. I know that God will abundantly bless your efforts for hearing and responding to His call.....even when that is a call to rest, which is especially hard for those of us with "busy" hands & hearts! Hugs to you dear friend!

  3. Yes, thanks so much for inspiring us to do better things for our boxes. We now have 3 ladies making pillowcase dresses and 1 lady making hats to co-ordinate with them. We are also attempting to add shoes, socks and undies with each one. The ladies have put together 25 dresses so far. Even though you have to slow down on this, know that your work has been multiplied by others. We thank the Lord there are folks like you who inspire others. Blessings to you and yours.

  5. You have been and inspiration and blessing to me as I try and get others on my team to make items for shoe boxes. We have interested a lot of groups here in AZ with some of your ideas. God has other plans for you now and the rest of us will carry on with you ideas and patterns so many Shoe Boxes will be filled because of your sharing and loving nature. May God continue to Bless You and your calling.

  12. Hi Cheryl,

I hope you're still reading these posts. We collect shoeboxes to fill, not buy them. We have for years. But this year our main source dried up, not sure of the reason. We are so far behind last year that I decided we needed to work harder. I remembered the flyer you posted about Wanted Empty Shoeboxes. So I printed off 5 and gave them out. A friend just called and said that they took one to a store and the employees promised to call her when they had a bunch. We're so excited. Thanks for keeping your blog up so I could find your poster. Hope all is well with you. Blessings to you.

  14. Hi Cheryl,

Me again, wanted you to know your poster for collecting the shoeboxes is still working. We now have 755 wrapped boxes in storage. We expect to have our quota of 1000 plus boxes by the end of July. We also have another lady making pillowcase dresses and now she's buying the $1 teddies at the dollar tree and is making matching dresses for the bears. Plus my sister is making cargo-type shorts for the boys and they are cute!! My friend, Candi, a young mother, has gotten us oodles of flip flops at the Children's Place on sale for .85 each, including tax. They are real nice, not just cheapies. I hope you and yours are doing well. Thanks for your inspiration. Sharon

  15. WOW! Sharon! Thanks for the update! I love the better flip flops I got at Kohl's last year with my free gift card so I know how exciting it is to have nice ones to put in. Glad the poster was a success for you! My husband still gets one or two a week from the one we put up at his work and a few come in every once in a while at my friend's shop. Can't wait to hear how it all comes out! Would love to see some pictures if you want to post on the Facebook page :-) . Happy Packing!
