Soap Edition of OCC Shoebox Stockpile Saturday ~ 3/18/2017

This was a great week for soap deals for us to add to our Operation Christmas Child shoebox stockpile.  At various times this week, various ones of us stopped at various Dollar Trees to take advantage of the Dial deal we printed coupons for while they were available earlier this week.  I also got a great soap deal at CVS this week, and picked up some toothbrushes on another deal!

I picked up a little more paracord this week for drawstrings for some jean tote bags we plan to make for some of our 10-14 year old boy shoeboxes.

Paracord for Operation Christmas Child 10 to 14 year old boy shoeboxes.

I ordered from Oriental Trading and picked up some of their "less than perfect" and clearance items.

My sister and I also stopped by a thrift store and found a number of new and like new items...most for a quarter!

We add a stuffed animal to each of our OCC shoeboxes.

My sister crocheted 7 Aunt Ida hats and attached the "Hand Made with Love tags" we designed.

  1. What are the Oriental Trading 'less than perfect' items like? I've been afraid to buy them in case they are not usable. Put in an order last week, mostly clearance items for older kids. You've given me a new place to search for stuffed animals - resale shops. I'd not thought about that, so will begin to check them out.

  2. Our Dollar General store is having 50% off winter clothing. We're in Florida (maybe people buy and send winter stuff up north as gifts??) and there were packs of 4 stretchy gloves half off. I got 6 packs (24 pr)and two beanie knit hats. At a resale store I picked up 2 packs of sealed playing cards, 50 cents each. And our Dollar Tree, where everything is $1 I got a lg pack of sandpaper & pkg of various sizes sponge paintbrushes (to divide up for older boy tool kits), and 5 pr of reading glasses. At $1 each it's a way to get eyeglasses to a child or parent who can't see very well. I'll pack them inside tall prescription bottles wrapped in socks or other small soft items.

  3. Recently there's been nothing at our CVS on clearance or a super sale. Their valentine stuff was totally gone - no sales after Valentines Day. Same thing happened at CVS after Christmas. Maybe they aren't ordering as much mdse anymore so there's nothing left over. Or maybe others got to the leftovers before I got to the store!

  4. This was my first time I got my nerve up to buy "less than perfect" In this case the gliders will just need some work with a razor blade before I send them to be sure the pop-out sections will remove cleanly. I'd just read carefully why they're "less than perfect" and decide if you're willing to risk it.

Glad you found some fun things at Dollar General...That is annoying when you can't find clearance at CVS & other stores!
