Thrifting and Craftig for OCC Shoebox Stockpile Saturday ~ 3/11/2017

Here's what we've added to our Operation Christmas Child shoebox packing stash this week:

I didn't get anything too great at CVS's 90% off clearance, but I did get these cute Lenticular printed images-it has three images on each card-cute little addition to a box or pencil pack fillers for Pencil Granny & Friends for just about a penny each!  Plus a bar of soap I got a deal on.

I got this bag free to carry a purchase at a small local store, so it is now in the shoebox stash.

My sister found some more like new stuffed animals at a local thrift store...one with tag still attached

My sister crocheted 6 Aunt Ida hats and attached the "Hand Made with Love tags" we designed.

My mom sewed 11 of these reversible pencil cases.

Combs and Brushes from MDSupplies & Services Review ~ Great to Pack in Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes

Finding good, but cost effective combs and brushes for Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes can be hard, so I was glad for the chance to look at the ones offered on MDSupplies and Service's special Shoebox Shoppers order form. MDSupplies and Services sells medical supplies in box and has helpfully made us who pack for shoeboxes a special order form of just items that can go in shoeboxes...plus it has FREE SHIPPING!!! March Item of the Month for OCC Shoeboxes ~ Quality Crafts

Samaritan's Purse has suggested items of the month for packing Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes, and for March that is Quality Crafts!  This is a great way to add items to shoeboxes.  

Many "crafters" have a stash of supplies they can whip up a few projects at little to no cost.  We've been able to use some crafting supplies from my late grandmother's stash to make Aunt Ida Hats and pencil bags among other things.  

You can also make kits for the child to craft from.  I used some extra yarn and beads to make jewelry making kits to send in my 10-14 year old girl shoeboxes.

Valentine's Clearance and Donations for OCC Shoebox Stockpile Saturday ~ 3/5/2017

Had a pretty good week for my Operation Christmas Child stockpile...which is good considering some news on the church/kids packing party plans...which I hope to share soon!

Last Saturday on my way home from my church responsibilities, I hit Kmart's 90% Vday's clearance...was sad to only find one pencil pack left, but that's life.

I got some more Paracord at Mighty Dollar.  I plan to use some for drawcords, some for boy's tool kits or knot activity sets.

I got some more Dial Basics at Dollar Tree with coupons, there were a couple packages that had gotten a little torn from people pulling them out of the bin, so, since I was going to take them apart anyhow, I thought I'd buy them and be helpful to the store.

I got some stuff at Dollar General's 90% off Vday.  The roses are a little different, but I thought what girl doesn't like having a flower?

We  also recived 3 boxes from Sew Delightful!  Lots of beautiful hand sewn dresses plus some other goodies!

Got some cute...like new stuffed animals...for $0.25 a piece at a local charity thrift store! 

Also got some other items ranged in price from $0.20 - $1.  I was especially excited about the magnifying glasses as I'd been wanting to add those, and these are plastic so are okay to send, and actually seem to work okay.  Also the 3D wooden puzzle/model which I looked up online and saw same one on Amazon for about $9!!

We got a couple free baseball hats!

This was the extent of my 50% off clearance at DG....thought 30+ motion pictures for a dime would be fun bonuses!

Dukal Hygiene Cases from MDSupplies & Services Review ~ Good for Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes

One thing I tried to add to my shoeboxes last year was cases for the hygiene supplies I'd always sent in my Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes.  The reasoning was if many of these children are living in orphanages, refuge camps, hospitals, or even mud huts, it could be hard to keep the toothbrushes and bars of soap free from dirt.  It can be hard to find the budget to add that to the shoeboxes though.
