Flower Power Skirt for an Operation Christmas Child Shoebox

I had the pleasure of ordering fabric for an Operation Christmas Child shoebox project once again from my friend's online store. She donated the fabric & trim for the skirt and the yarn for the hat.

My husband had found a dozen of these wonderful, high quality knit shirts for just $1 last fall and I am going to make skirts for each of them. They are for 5 to 9 year old boxes.  This is the first one I
have completed.

I chose to use four of the five colors of Flower Power fabric Joanne offered online.

It took 1/4 yard of each color and I had no scraps left.  I made it long enough to be at least mid-calf as I know some cultures longer skirts are important.

I used the black background print for the hemline and the waistband.

To counter the busyness of the prints side by side, I used narrow, single fold bias tape to cover all of my seams.

I always include a hat in my boxes and Joanne let me pick out some yarn, too.  I chose this green and red to match some of the colors in the prints (in real life it matches much better than in these images).

I ordered these flip flops on clearance from Kohl's with a gift card I had won on a blog giveaway.  The many colors match those in the skirt perfectly.

And finally a sweet bunny to enjoy playing in the field of flowers.  This little fella was in the bunch of new Avon Beanies donated to our boxes.

I will be adding to this box throughout the year as I continue to get supplies and until it is full.
