Hello Kitty Themed Operation Christmas Child Shoebox

My Hello Kitty themed Operation Christmas Child shoebox began with free band-aids from a CVS deal and a free toothbrush from a coupon.  The fun thing is I have only paid for the shirt ($1) and the socks (20 cents) so far.  I will be adding a few more things, but the total should still be only a few dollars.

My husband had found these shirts for $1 last fall and I decided I'd make skirts to match them.  The flower fabric was donated by Red Thread Stitches and the trim and gingham fabric came from my mother-in-law's stash.  I chose this fabric
because it had red in it like the shirt and yellow and orange that match the flip flops.

Hello Kitty Themed Operation Christmas Child Shoe Box Gift hygiene supplies

Along with the toothbrush and band-aids I added a washcloth and hair brush to the hygiene items I am including (soap will be added later).  I bought these with the Kohl's gift card I won in a blog giveaway.

The little white kitty was donated along with dozens of other Avon Full o'Beans animals to my packing efforts.  The tin with dominoes was purchased with the free Kohl's card and the puzzles were purchased on clearance at Walmart with a Visa Gift Card I won in a blog giveaway.

Hello Kitty Themed Operation Christmas Child Shoe Box Gift DIY coloring book

I made a little Hello Kitty DIY coloring book with free paper and cardboard.  The ink was purchased with refunds.  The images were found online at a free coloring book pages site.

These Hello Kitty flip flops were also purchased with the Kohl's gift card I won.

I think this little gal needs a pink bow in her hair so she looks more like Hello Kitty. I think I can do that with some ribbon scraps I have.

Do you like to do theme boxes?  Have you found creative ways to pack boxes with little out of pocket cost?

I was gonna say Kitty needs a red or pink bow or flower in her hair! lol

I have a few going from toothbrush or shoe or T-shirt character, pencil binders. I have all my stash sorted now but need to go thru and decide what shoes/flip flops go w/which clothing. Then, I wanna make a notecard to put w/my coupons/store cards. It needs to remind me of sizes or colors of clothing I need.

Sounds like you are super organized, Denise Marie. Note card with needs is a great idea.

I was able to get 45 hello kitty t-shirts from Meijer for .68 each a week or so ago. I knew Meijer would mark the Christmas t-shirts down to .90 but this year they had an additional 25% off the clearance price. We did a couple of hello kitty boxes last year with shoes added. The shoes were $6 at Target. Then we had undies, socks, crayons, toothpaste, toothbrushes, coloring books, all sorts of things. We've done Minnie Mouse and Dinosaur theme boxes. Most of the things we get are bought for pennies on the dollar. We do try to get quality items. Nothing more disappointing than having your new toy fall apart almost as soon as you take it out of the box.

Keep up the good work.

Sharon, what fun to find so many items!! We have very few stores around here (neither that you just mentioned) so it is hard to find things. I keep seeing postings of Target finds -- many Hello Kitty! I was thrilled with what I was able to find. You are right, don't want things falling apart. Thanks for stopping by. I'm thinking I need to ask my Father in law to keep his eye on Meijers for me--I know he has one nearby.

I go to parades for free stuff. Mardi Gras beads, pencils, coloring books, sunglasses, toothbrushes, that sort of thing.

Great idea, Painter!
