Upcycled Ladies' Skirts to Little Girls' Dresses for Operation Christmas Child Sheoboxes

Finished Dresses
My daughter was gathering items to donate to Goodwill and knew that I was interested in upcycling items into new gifts for my Operation Christmas Child Shoebox gifts.  She had these two cotton skirts that were perfect for turning into pillowcase style dresses for a 2 to 4 years old girl's shoebox!

Original Skirts

Skirt plus a few supplies on hand--bias tapes & elastic purchased at
discount craft store.

They had these delightful edgings on the hems.
I followed my basic instructions for  pillowcase style dresses, but the pink dress was a little short so I used some wide, single fold bias tape to make the casing for the elastic.  This added almost an inch to the length making it easily a size 3.
I stitched right sides together and pressed to the back side to form casing.
Buying like-new used clothing at thrift stores and garage sales, or finding it thru Freecycle or from friends and family, is a great way to make many items that will be greatly appreciated by a child in need.  As I upcycle more items I'll be bringing them to you all for ideas and inspiration.
I cut the zippers out of the back and saved them for a future project.

such a great idea and shows that we should think outside the box - you don't have to have a pillowcase or yards of cloth to make this style of dress! Just think of all the cute skirts out there that could be turned into these cute dresses! Thanks for sharing the inspiration with us at the creative craft challenge!
