$12 of Shoe Box Fillers for $1 Out of Pocket ~ Beginning a Stockpile for 2014 OCC Shoebox Season

We are in the middle of a spur of the moment Operation Christmas Child packing party, as most of you know, but that didn't stop my daughter from bringing home some goodies for next year's boxes.

She made one last run for items we were still lacking on Saturday.  Right before she left I received an email from Family Dollar with a $5 off $25 purchase coupon.  She needed some socks and zipper bags that she could get there so I printed off
the coupon for her--her total came to exactly $25.

My husband was going with her so he took one of the coupons, too, to pick up some household items we needed. I had no idea how much my total would come to so I told them to check the clearance dollar corner and fill out the $25 if they were close so we could use the coupon and get some shoe box items.

His total was $20--Perfect!!  They went to see if they could find $5 of clearance items.  They found eight locker mirrors (non-breakable) for a total of $4. Then my daughter spied two three-packs of sippy cups.  She knows I am trying to include practical items in the boxes so she grabbed both packages at $1 each.  So they added these to my husband's order and with the $5 off $25 coupon they were able to pay just $1 for all of these which were regularly $12.  Fourteen items to tuck away for next year.

Confession time:  who else has already started shopping or crafting for Operation Christmas Child shoebox season 2014???

Well, we haven't actually started shopping for next year yet, but we do have some "seed" items from this year to begin our stockpile for next year!

We have several leftover items too, even after putting together the packing party, Karen. Love thinking of them as "seeds" that will grow over the year until we can fill more boxes.

Yes!! We have lots of things stored still so I have been sorting these out to see what we actually need and have already completed one box for next year. Another needs just plasticine and toothpaste :)
